Two key videos from the British APCO exhibition

Yesterday was an absolutely packed day for the social media team at the British APCO exhibition. We spoke to search and rescue specialists who had been deployed to Haiti, a lord mayor, several presidents and a team of illustrators. Day two looks set to be even busier. To help you catch up here are two videos looking at key issues from yesterday’s coverage.

The question of 4G (LTE) networks and whether responders should piggyback on public networks. The argument has been won in the USA. It’s still being debated in the UK. The President of APCO International explains why American responders are building a dedicated network.

When you deploy overseas into disaster zones you need reliable, rapidly deployable kit. No surprise then that the UK ISAR command centre is pretty low-tech. Some surprise that they use the Dropbox system for easy sharing of logs and other operational data. That’s what we use. In leafy Hampstead (we’re not based in Hampstead, I don’t know why I wrote that but leafy Herefordshire doesn’t have the same ring to it).
